The church has been accused of being stuck in a 2000-year-old understanding of the world. While at times, that can feel like an accurate assessment, the Christian faith is a rich tradition continually shaped by the ongoing revelation of God. As Jesus shows up in new and unexpected ways, our task is cultivating an openness to being surprised, and then wrestling with what to do when we are. The Rev. Dr. Jason Byassee is fascinated by the ways Jesus shows up. “We look at our Bibles, our friends, and even our enemies, and we think we know what we’ll find,” he says, “but then Jesus reveals himself in ways we never expected. Cultivating an openness to being surprised changes the way we understand faith in the world.” Preaching Grace is three separate events gathered together in one weekend at Grace Presbyterian Church. You can attend any or all of the events. Evening Presentation - FREE Friday, April 27, at 7:30 pm – Register to attend this free presentation where Dr. Byassee will speak about the beautiful and sometimes challenging ways Jesus shows up in our ordinary moments. Conversation and Retreat - $75 Saturday, April 28, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm – What do we do when we’re surprised by Jesus? Saturday’s retreat is a chance reflect on God’s investment in the particular and consider how we might respond. Space is limited, register today! Sunday Morning Sermon Sunday, April 29, at 10:30 a.m. – Curious about what Dr. Byassee’s work looks like from across the pulpit?
